The Police Command in Bayelsa State on Thursday presented suspects arrested in connection with armed robbery, cultism and kidnapping at different locations in the state to journalists.
Asuquo Amba, the Police Commissioner in the state, told journalists in Yenagoa that some of the items recovered from the suspects included firearms, vehicles and cell phones.
Amba said that the command achieved the feat due to the renewed crime fighting strategy put in place by the Command.
The commissioner said the suspected cultists belonged to various groups such as: Greenlanders, Icelanders, Bobos, Vikings and Baggers.
Amba said: “The suspects are 31 in number and some of them were arrested during our ‘stop and search’ operation.
“On the arrest made at Azikoro axis, Yenagoa area, the gang members have confessed to the killing of one Luke Inengite, aged 30, of Agbura Community, whose corpse was found in a pond in the community on July 3.
“They have also confessed to the murder of one boy at Swali axis and other heinous crimes within Azikoro community; the Police investigations are ongoing and they must be brought to book.
The commissioner reiterated the command’s readiness to make Bayelsa a free-crime state and urged officers not to relent, to ensure that the criminals were fished out.
